Headphones and kids especially younger ones dont really mix. Over-the-head designs can be too large, in-ear earphones are uncomfortable for small ears, and using non-specialist headphones can damage childrens delicate ears. CozyPhones, available in a range of cute designs that kids will love, are headband headphones, soft and comfortable for little ones to wear even for long periods of time. The CozyPhones brand has a variety of other models for adults as well, mostly intended for use during sleeping or outdoors in colder weather; for the purpose of this review, though, were focusing on the kids line only.
Look and feel:5/5
It would be challenging to find a CozyPhones design your little one doesnt love. The childrens line boasts a huge selection of animal-themed options, including a pale blue unicorn, a white unicorn, a pink kitty, a panda, purple and green frogs, a lion, and bunnies.
CozyPhones are made from a soft, lightweight, fleece material and have a flexible cord that feels tough enough to put up with rough handling from little hands. Theyre also washable once the electronics have been removed.
Usability:4/5
The first time your child uses their new CozyPhones you have to adjust them to fit. This is done by moving the electronic components inside the headband while your child is wearing them. It can be a little finicky, but once youve got the correct fit your child should be able to easily put the headphones on and pull them off on their own. The stretchy design also means they stay in place really well.
Theyre incredibly comfortable, and can even be pulled down over the eyes to work as a sleep or eye-mask great for use on airplanes. CozyPhones are soft enough that users can easily sleep in them. The fabric design also means they can be rolled up to fit in a backpack or bag, taking up very little space.
Performance and power:4/5
Like most traditional headphones, CozyPhones draw power from the device youre using them with. Sadly the kids versions are only available with a 3.5mm headphone plug, so if you want to use them with an iPhone or iPad, you need to use a separate adapter, but these arent expensive. Still, its a bit obnoxious to buy another piece of equipment in order to use them.
Sound quality: 3/5
Obviously, no one is going to buy CozyPhones because theyre looking for superior sound quality and booming battery power in fact, sound is limited to protect little ears. Thats not what these devices are trying to deliver. So this is a hard one to rate, but if pure, sound quality is all you care about (for yourself or your children), then maybe shop around for other niche headphones. That said, the sound is totally fine.
Overall rating: 4.5/5
CozyPhones are a well-thought-out, well-designed, quality product for children theyll happily use consistently. The designs are fun and the safety features make them an easy product to recommend. Best of all, they are quite affordable: Pricing starts at around $19.
